My name is Dmitry, I am from Latvia, and I came to Valencia in spring of 2016. It didn’t take long till I started exploring the mountainous landscapes around the province and getting enthusiastic about going there more and more often, not being able to get enough. But the most radical change came after I watched the Salomon’s video about Kilian Jornet and that was it. Not only did I start going running in the mountains almost every day, but I was also dreaming about when I wasn’t there. Soon I realized that I can share this passion of mine with others, and explore all of the natural beauty, abundant in this area.
What started as a Meetup group now became a community of people enthusiastic about going out of the city and spending one or several days walking on local paths, chatting with friends and meeting people from all around the globe. I mentioned being passionate about running before, which is quite useful, because this gives me the opportunity to prepare every hike paying attention to all the details and cover the distance 2 or 3 times longer than the actual route we will then do together, finding the best possible points of interest there are.
Recently I have moved to Náquera or the Gate to Sierra Calderona, as they call it here – a village at the edge of natural park. The idea was to be able to have the mountains at the doorstep and explore it every day, trying to find a new path or a hidden corner every time I go out there.
As I said, now this is a community of like-minded people who love to go out and explore nature, but newcomers are always welcome and every hike is a mix of people who already know each other and the ones who are there for the first time.
You may have seen a gallery page, with lots of photos of Flat Eric there. The whole thing started as a joke when a friend asked me whether I’m going to take Eric with us on a next trip. Now he has become one of the symbols of the group for me.
