The Arquillo Reservoir

12th of August

Let’s go to the Arquillo reservoir to do an easy hike along the Turia river taling Camino Natural de Guadalaviar and then swim or kayak in the reservoir.

The Arquillo reservoir provides lots of opportunities for summer activities. You can ride a kayak, do stand up paddle boarding, go hydrocycling or just take a dip. The reservoir is made by the Guadalaviar river, which later in Teruel changes its name to Turia. It is really fun here to combine swimming or kayaking with some hiking.

Luckily for us, there is an easy hiking route though the canyon made by the same river. The path is called Camino Natural de Guadalaviar and it leads to the village of San Blas. There are lots of wooden bridges and metal pathways made to facilitate walking through the canyon. We are going to take a hike here before the watery activities in Arquillo reservoir. First we’ll walk through the canyon, to then later take a trail up and return along the rim of it. This way we’ll get to see the canyon both from down the river as well as from above.

During our hikes we normally stop for coffee before the hike and then head to do the route. Later, after the hike, we do one more stop, this time for some refreshing drinks and/or snacks.
