30th of May
Let’s celebrate the fast approaching summer by hiking one of the most beautiful areas of Valencian Community – la Vall de la Gallinera. The area is especially attractive at this time thanks to all the cherry trees, which are full of fruit right now.
We’ll meet in Valencia, in front of Mestalla stadium (the parking lot on av. Aragón) and drive to Alpatró. Once there, we’ll have a coffee on a terrace and start the hike.
One of the main attractions of the hike is the so-called Penya Foradà or Foradada, located at an altitude of 737 meters above sea level, is an authentic natural wonder of the province of Alicante, which we could say, without a doubt, is the most representative landscape element of La Vall de Gallinera, a beautiful valley full of natural corners, uninhabited Moorish areas and 8 urban centers that make up the municipality that gives the valley its name.
This spectacular stone arch, of great beauty, is a magical corner from which to observe the entire Vall de Gallinera, one of the main causes of the valley being declared a Natural Area of the Generalitat Valenciana, a natural window in which, Casual way and during 2 times a year, a solar alignment takes place that attracts curious and amateurs of astronomy.

Another point of interest is the Benissili Castle. This fortress was the home of the Arab leader Al-Azraq, during the years of fighting against the Christians. It is located about 730 meters high, in the Sierra Foradà, guarding the west entrance of the valley. The castle is currently in the process of being restored.
