The Stone Giants

13th of November

Let’s explore some of the most curious rock rock formations of the province of Cuenca – Callejuelas de Talayuelas. This place is somewhat similar to Ciudad Encantada, but has the advantage of being empty, since very few people know about it.

We’ll meet in Valencia in the parking lot on av. Aragón in front of Mestalla stadium and drive to Talayuelas. Once there, we’ll have a coffee on a terrace before starting the hike.

We’ll drive for a couple of minutes to the starting point of the hike. First, the route will take us through the dense pine tree woods. Soon, we’ll start making our way up, with glimpses of the rock formations. Once we get up, we’ll be in the middle of a seemingly magical place. The rocks will surround us here, and we’ll have to look for ways to get through them. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways through, that’s also why the place is called callejuelas (small streets). We’ll stop for lunch at the highest point of the route and then make our way back to town. Finally, we’ll have a drink on a terrace after the hike and return to Valencia.

Difficulty: medium/high (12.7km with 600m of elevation gain)
Technical level: medium/high (some tricky sections between rocks)
Transportation: 9-seater minivan (you can also come directly)
Price: 28 euros (19 euros for members)
Meeting point: Mestalla, parking lot on av. Aragón, 9:00 (return to Valencia ~18:00)
Bring at least 1l of water, lunch, warm clothes and hiking shoes.
