Let’s go to Gestalgar to hike along the Túria river exploring the canyons made by it. We will walk all the way till Balneario de Chulilla and hike up Peña María on the way back.
We’ll meet in Valencia in the parking lot on av. Aragón in front of Mestalla stadium and drive to Gestalgar. Once there, we’ll have a coffee on a terrace and start the hike.
We’ll start from a small pond next to the way and walk on the banks of Túria river till we reach a Román aqueduct – acueducto de Calicanto. Next, we’ll get on a trail and make our way up the canyon. At some points the trail gets quite narrow, but there are chains to help us make our way safely. After some scenic vantage points we’ll get back on a gravel road. After turning around and crossing to the other side of the river we will make a lunch stop. Towards the end of the hike we will hike up to Peña María peak and get the best views of the area. Finally, we’ll have a drink on a terrace in Gestalgar and return to Valencia.
Difficulty: medium/high (17.4km with 530m elevation gain)
Technical level: medium/high (single track trails, a narrow path through the canyon at one point)
Meeting point: Mestalla, entrance on av. Aragón, 9:30 (return to Valencia ~18:00)
Price: 32 euros (28 euros signing up before 05.04 9:00) / 12 euros coming to Gestalgar.
