El Pozo Negro

Let’s visit the deepest natural pool in Valencian Community – Pozo Negro, and hike in its surroundings, enjoying the views of the valley in this precious corner of Sierra Espadán.

We will visit Pozo Negro of Fuentes de Ayódar – a beautiful natural pool in the Sierra de Espadán.
It is also known as the Black Well, or the “bottomless pool” due to its depth of about three meters, a bathing area next to the Fuente del Zuro area, being created naturally by the wear of the impact of water over time, with very cold, transparent and clean water. This natural pool is located in the mountains of the Sierra de Espadán Natural Park, nestled in the middle of nature halfway between Fuentes de Ayódar and Torralba del Pinar, just 2 kilometers from the first mentioned town, where to reach it you must you can admire a landscape full of pines, cork oaks, holm oaks and great vegetation that coexists in harmony with reddish mountains, a characteristic shade of rodeno, a red sandstone.

We’ll meet in Valencia and drive to Fuentes de Ayodar. Once there, we’ll have a coffee on a terrace and start the hike. This time we’re going to do an easy version starting from Fuentes de Ayodar. Most of the itinerary goes along gravel roads, with a couple of short single track trails. Will pass by Fuente del Zuro, which is located right next to Pozo Negro. There we will make a stop to have lunch and bathe in the cool water of this natural pool. After that a short walk will take us back to the village.
