December 27 – January 1
Let’s celebrate the upcoming new year in Mallorca, hiking and sightseeing in the Northern part of the island. We will stay in Sóller which is a perfect place for day hikes, and is well connected with other parts of the island, so we can use public transport to also do more leisurely kind of activities.
Friday, December 27: Valencia – Palma de Mallorca
We will leave Valencia on Friday afternoon with a direct Ryanair flight at 15:55.
As the flight only takes one hour, we should have enough time to walk around Palma in the evening, see the Catedral-Basílica de Santa María and go for dinner in a nice place.
Saturday, December 28: Castell de Bellver
In the morning we can walk around Palma a bit more and discover the city in the light of a day, contrasting it with the evening sights of the previous evening. We will also go up to Castillo de Bellver to get the panoramic views of the city and explore the castle. Later we can have lunch in Palma and then get a bus and go to Sóller where we will spend the next 4 days.
After checking in the hotel we can go for a walk around the city and explore it’s sights such as Sala Picasso y Sala Miro at the train station, Sant Bartomeu chucrch and the scenic old quarters of the town.
Sunday, December 29: Cliff Route
The first full day in Sóller will be dedicated to exploring the cliffs and coves of the Northern cost. We will start the hike from Sóller and head north-west until we reach the coast. Then we’ll take a trail along the coastline, passing by a small village, Llucalcari along the way and finish the hike in Deiá. There we can have lunch and dedicate afternoon to explore the town. After that we will take the bus back to Sóller.
Length: 12.8 km
Elevation gain: 450m
Monday, December 30: Embalse de Cúber
Since this hikes entails quite a lot of elevation we can do it in reverse – take the bus in the morning to the top and then walk back down to Sóller. We will start from Font des Noguer, walk along the reservoir and then start our descent along the long distnace trail GR 221, which crosses all the island from West to East.
Length: 11.8 km
Elevation gain/loss: 120m/840m
Tuesday, December 31: Rest Day + Port de Sóller
In order to be able to keep the good spirits for the whole day we’ll take it easy this day with a relaxing hike to Far de Cap Gros lighthouse and then down to Port de Sóller. There we can enjoy the day in this coastal town and the festivities of the upcoming New Year’s eve. In the evening we can also take the famous tram to return back to our hotel.
Length: 10.7 km
Elevation gain: 250m
Wednesday, January 1: Sóller – Palma
After the celebration we can take it easy in the morning and sleep longer and head back to Palma/airport around lunchtime. Our flight is in the evening so there’s plenty of time to pack up and even do some more sightseeing for an hour or two.
We will spend the first night in Palma de Mallorca in hotel Abelux and head to Sóller the following day.
We will spend most of the time in Sóller, since this is a great location to start the hikes and it is well connected with the rest of the island. We have 4 twin rooms booked for us in a 4-star hotel Lluna Aqua Soller.
