Teide National Park
Located in the center of the island of Tenerife, the Teide National Park can be explored on several trails, including the one that leads to the very peak of the volcano. Departing from Montaña Blanca, this highly difficult itinerary due to the progressive change in altitude (it goes from 2,367 to 3,715 meters) takes around six hours to reach the Altavista refuge. There is the possibility of spending the night if a permit is processed beforehand to wait until dawn and face the last section of the ascent, which leads to the Teide crater itself.

Parque Rural de Anaga

Just a few minutes’ drive away from the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, lies Anaga Country Park, which has been declared a Biosphere Reserve and has succeeded in preserving its natural assets quite exceptionally. You would not be the first person to be besotted by its beautiful precipitous mountain chain full of sharp peaks. The deep valleys and ravines that cut across it eventually reach the sea, forming a series of beaches where you can take a refreshing dip. The area is also home to a wealth of fauna and flora with plenty of native species.
The Anaga Rural Park hides, between its laurel forests and its ravines, a complete network of trails that run through different corners of these mountains. Anaga’s attraction among hikers is due to the variety of routes and richness in landscapes: to enjoy both the laurel forest and the coast, the path that leads to the Taganana farmhouse is the most popular because it allows the hiker to finish with a swim in the sea.

Montaña Negra

In the vicinity of the Chinyero volcano we find the the Montaña Negra. You are not allowed to climb both volcanoes for nature conservation reasons. But you can hike to the Montaña Negra and circle it completely in a fantastic hike. If you look at the tracks of the Chinyero hikes, you will notice that the Montaña Negra is very close by. Therefore it is a good idea to visit both volcanoes together.
Volcano Montaña Negra – also called Montaña del Estrecho (Volcán Garachico) – erupted in 1706. This eruption lasted nine days and caused severe damage. The port city of Garachico is located just 8 kilometres from the volcano. Two lava flow of about 500 meters width poured over the place and it was largely destroyed….
This circular hike around the Montaña Negra is really an easy hike for everyone in a decent physical condition. At the beginning of the hike, finding the way is a bit tricky, so you might want to download the track beforehand. But all in all, the ascents are moderate and the hiking trails are wide and easy to walk on. You can expect easy walking and a beautiful nature all around.
Cruz del Draguillo

This trail has some of the most epic views of the Northern coast of Tenerife. The main route is marked as the PR-TF 6 and there are three additional variations of this route, taking you either to the cross or the lighthouse of Anaga. You can start the route either in Chamorga (which is higher up) or Benijo, if you prefer the hike to have a classic profile – ascent in the beginning and gradual descent at the end. Either way, it looks like a really nice hike, all within the Anaga rural park.
Monte del Agua

Located between the municipalities of El Tanque, Los Silos, and Buenavista del Norte, in the north of Tenerife, this comfortable route runs almost entirely along a forest track to connect the rural areas of Erjos and Las Portelas. The trail passes through Monte del Agua and Pasos, a wide monteverde forest with laurel and fayal-brezal. During the journey, you can observe two types of endemic pigeons from the Canary Islands, the rabiche and the turqué. There are also interesting examples of traditional architecture with tiled houses and stone walls.
With its eleven kilometers in length and a vertical drop of 343 meters, the Monte del Agua trekking trail starts in the town of Erjos, a place of historical importance in the Canary Islands as it connects the northern and southern regions of Tenerife. This area is known for its cereal crops and livestock farming. The route takes you through laurel forests, pine trees, water ponds, and agricultural fields reclaimed from the mountains in the El Palmar area, within the Teno Rural Park. The trail is of medium difficulty, so it is advisable to wear appropriate equipment and footwear. It is also recommended to bring food and drinks.
