If you are thinking about a city on the Mediterranean coast – you would be surprised! Piedras de Cullera are rock formations in the heart of Sierra Espadán, near Almedíjar and right next to Espadán Peak. And this is the hike that will get us up there.
We’ll meet in Valencia in the parking lot on av. Aragón in front of Mestalla stadium and drive to Almedíjar. Once there, we’ll have a coffee on a terrace and start the hike. First we will hike up along the Foquía ravine. From there, a short and scenic path along a gravel road will take us to the main part – the trails around Alto del Erizo. The terrain here is quite rocky and irregular, which makes for interesting hiking. It also provides panoramic views for the most part of this trail. Eventually we will get to Piedras de Cullera lookout point, where we will have lunch. After that, a single track trail will take us back down to Almedíjar. Here we’ll have a drink on a terrace and return to Valencia.
