23rd of January
This time we are doing something new! We will spend the entire trip in silence, without saying a single word. There is a perfect spot for that in Benagéber, called Camino del Silencio.
We’ll meet at Mestalla as usual and I will explain all the details there. As soon as we get in the minibus, the silent hike will commence and we shall not say a word untill we finish it. We will still go to the bar for coffee before hike, but the order will have to be written down on a paper, which I will pass to the barman. The rest is the same – just hike and enjoy the scenery!
After the hike we will sit down for a drink at a terrace and at this point we will get a chance to get to know each other and chat a bit.
“Camino del Silencio” is an initiative of the Benagéber City Council that unites nature, hiking and history in a journey through the vestiges of the recent past of this mountain municipality, linking the villages of the population abandoned and relocated after the construction of the reservoir of Benageber. Camino del Silencio is a memory route over 16 kilometers that runs through the main villages in the municipal area. It begins with the village of Nieva, the only one currently inhabited, where you can visit a new area of native scrubland with aromatic and medicinal plants, the ‘Mirador de Nieva’, the laundry room and the San Isidro Fountain.
