Cuevas de Sant Josep, located in the municipality of La Vall d’Uixó in the province of Castellón, Spain, are home to Europe’s longest navigable underground river. This extraordinary natural wonder allows visitors to explore a stunning network of caves by boat, gliding through serene waters and marveling at the breathtaking rock formations, stalactites, and stalagmites. Discovered in prehistoric times and inhabited by early humans, the caves are steeped in history, as evidenced by the ancient wall carvings found within. The guided boat tours take visitors through winding passages and open chambers, including the “Cathedral” and “Devil’s Waterfall,” while a section of the route is traversed on foot. With its blend of geological beauty and historical intrigue, the Cuevas de Sant Josep are a must-see destination in the Valencian Community.

After exploring the Cuevas de Sant Josep, we’ll extend our adventure with a hike to L’Arquet in the nearby village of Alfondeguilla. This scenic trail offers a perfect combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage, leading you through lush Mediterranean landscapes, ancient terraces, and vibrant flora. The hike culminates at L’Arquet, a small, picturesque stone aqueduct nestled in a peaceful valley. Along the way, you’ll encounter panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and enjoy the tranquility of the rural countryside.
