Sierra de Ferrer, located near the well-known Coll de Rates mountain pass in the Marina Alta region of Alicante, offers a rugged and rewarding landscape for hiking enthusiasts. This lesser-known mountain range is characterized by sharp limestone ridges, dramatic cliffs, and expansive views over the surrounding valleys and coastal plains. Trails through Sierra de Ferrer often follow old forestry tracks and rocky footpaths, leading hikers through Mediterranean pine forests and scrubland dotted with aromatic herbs like rosemary and thyme. The ascent to the higher points of the range is well worth the effort, as it opens up panoramic vistas towards the Bernia Ridge, the Segària mountains, and, on clear days, even the distant outline of the Peñón de Ifach and the shimmering Mediterranean Sea.
