30th of October
Let’s to the edge of Sierra Espadán – Argelita, to do a part of the Canaleta trail. We will get great views of the canyon as we hike up the trail and even better views of the valley from the peak.
We’ll meet in Valencia in the parking lot on av. Aragón in front of Mestalla stadium and drive to Argelita. Once there, we’ll have a cup of coffee on a terrace of a bar before starting the hike.
The route starts with easy walking along the river to get out of village. Eventually, the path is going to take us through the ravine, which will still be flat, but very rocky. We won’t hike through ravine for long though, and soon get on the trail and start ascending. The trail is going in zigzags and therefore is not too steep. Plus, the path is quite open, so we’ll have plenty of opportunities to stop to rest and drink water, while enjoying the views. The summit is well-worth the effort, since from here we get great views of Sierra Espadán (especially Peña Saganta peak, which we just recently hiked) on one side, and as far as Penyagolosa on the other. We will also stop for lunch at the peak. The descent will be done on the other side, closing the loop back to Argelita. We will have a drink on a terrace after the hike and then return to Valencia.
