Palmeral de Elche
Palmeral de Elche is the largest palm grove in Europe and one of the most iconic landmarks of the Valencian Community. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it features over 200,000 date palms, with origins tracing back to the Phoenicians and later expanded by the Moors. The palm grove is an extraordinary example of agricultural heritage, showcasing a sophisticated irrigation system designed by the Moors to cultivate arid land. Visitors can stroll through lush pathways in the Huerto del Cura garden, admire historical water channels, and experience a unique Mediterranean oasis in the heart of Elche.
Rambla Salada
Rambla Salada is a unique natural site in the province of Alicante, known for its striking saline landscapes and geological formations. Located near the town of Albatera, it is a semi-arid ramble characterized by layers of salt-encrusted terrain, rugged cliffs, and a stark beauty that captivates visitors. The area is shaped by intermittent water flows, creating salt deposits and natural pools that shimmer under the sun, giving the terrain its distinctive appearance. The surrounding vegetation is sparse but adapted to the high salinity, adding to the site’s otherworldly atmosphere. Rambla Salada is a popular spot for hiking enthusiasts, offering trails that showcase its natural beauty, including a notable route to a historic aqueduct and remnants of salt-mining infrastructure, reflecting its cultural and geological significance.
