Albarracín and Its Surroundings
Albarracín is a unique place. Strolling through the streets, hiking along the city walls and entering various monuments is like taking a trip to the Middle Ages. You will admire every corner, its reddish houses, doors and knockers, tiny windows with lace curtains or the endless balconies in rich wrought iron and carved wood. Not to mention the wonderful views that you will get from its enviable location.
If this is the first time you visit Albarracín, this beautiful town captivated you. Albarracín has been, since time immemorial, a strategic city, hence its defensive capacity was unbeatable in the past. There is a series of defensive constructions composed of three castles and two walls. All the fortifications have been built throughout history. These days anyone can walk up to them and marvel at the ancient architectural creations.
If you want to enjoy the natural environment of Albarracín, you can take a pleasant hike along the Guadalaviar river and walk along the river which meanders around the town.
In its surroundings there is also one of the most surprising landscape and cultural complexes in Aragon: the Protected Landscape of Pinares de Rodeno. The chromatic contrasts between the green of the pine forest and the red of sandstone create a space of great color, strength and beauty. Excellent samples of Levantine cave paitings, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, are preserved in its rocky shelters

The Red Canyon of Teruel
The Red Canyon of Teruel, also known as Rambla de Barranchina, is a stunning natural formation located in the province of Teruel, within the autonomous community of Aragon, Spain. Characterized by its striking red and ochre rock formations, the canyon is a geological wonder shaped by centuries of erosion from wind and water. These colorful sedimentary layers, primarily composed of clay, sandstone, and limestone, create a unique landscape that contrasts sharply with the surrounding green vegetation. The rich red hues of the canyon are particularly breathtaking at sunrise and sunset, when the sun’s low angle accentuates the vividness of the colors. This visually captivating site has become a popular destination for hikers, photographers, and nature lovers seeking to experience the raw beauty of Spain’s lesser-known natural gems. The circular hike is quite easy and goes through the mentioned ravine before taking you up to the top of the canyon for the return.
Barranco de la Hoz (Calomarde)

Barranco de la Hoz, located near the village of Calomarde in the province of Teruel, Spain, is a breathtaking ravine that offers a striking combination of natural beauty and rugged landscapes. This narrow gorge is carved by the Blanco River and is surrounded by steep limestone cliffs that tower above the valley, making it a popular spot for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. The dramatic rock formations, combined with the lush vegetation along the riverbanks, create an enchanting atmosphere, especially during the spring and autumn months when the greenery contrasts with the light-colored stone. Visitors to Barranco de la Hoz often explore its well-maintained hiking trails and enjoy views from wooden bridges and observation points, where the natural beauty of the ravine is most visible.
Pinares de Rodeno

The Protected Landscape of the Pinares del Rodeno is a natural space that stands out for its uniqueness and for the close relationship between flora, fauna, geology and human activity. This site offers you many possibilities at any time of year, such as hiking, mycological outings, climbing and cultural visits. In addition, many of these activities are ideal for families with children because there are trails of low difficulty, and the cave paintings are an art of great attraction for the little ones.
