Puig Campana is an iconic mountain in the province of Alicante, standing at 1,406 meters, making it the second-highest peak in the region and a symbol of Costa Blanca’s rugged beauty. Located near the town of Finestrat, it is renowned for its dramatic, steep slopes and the distinctive notch near its summit, known as “El Portell.” The mountain is a favorite destination for hikers and climbers, offering challenging trails like the circular route around its base or the steep ascent to its peak, which rewards adventurers with panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, nearby towns, and the surrounding landscapes. Rich in myths and legends, such as the tale of its notch being created by the giant Roldán, Puig Campana combines natural splendor with a sense of cultural mystique, making it a must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts in the Valencian Community.
The Kilómetro Vertical to the summit of Puig Campana is a renowned and challenging trail, beloved by trail runners and hikers seeking a test of endurance and strength. Covering a distance of just over 3 kilometers with an elevation gain of approximately 1,000 meters, this route is a relentless ascent that demands physical and mental stamina. Starting near the base of the mountain in Finestrat, the trail zigzags through rugged terrain, loose rocks, and steep inclines, offering stunning views of the Costa Blanca as you climb higher. The reward at the summit is breathtaking—panoramic vistas of the Mediterranean Sea, the Benidorm skyline, and the vast landscapes of Alicante. The Kilómetro Vertical is not only a physical challenge but also an unforgettable experience for those seeking to conquer one of Spain’s most iconic peaks.
