The most impressive costal route in Comunidad Valenciana – the hike along the cliffs of Serra Gelada. The route is linear, starting from L’Alfàs del Pi and making our way to the other side of the sierra – Benidorm.
Serra Gelada, located between Benidorm and Altea on Spain’s Costa Blanca, is a striking coastal mountain range renowned for its towering cliffs and expansive views of the Mediterranean Sea. This natural park covers over 5,600 hectares, including both land and marine areas, making it an essential site for preserving diverse Mediterranean ecosystems. The steep limestone cliffs, which rise dramatically from the sea to heights of nearly 300 meters, are some of the tallest in Spain and are visible from miles around. Serra Gelada is home to a variety of unique flora and fauna, including rare seabirds like the Audouin’s gull, and marine life such as dolphins and posidonia oceanica seagrass, which sustains the health of local underwater habitats.
Hiking through Serra Gelada offers an unforgettable experience, with well-maintained trails leading visitors along cliff edges, offering sweeping sea views and glimpses of the nearby islands and coves below. One of the most popular routes, the Faro de l’Albir trail, takes hikers to a lighthouse with panoramic views of the coastline and mountains. For more adventurous hikers, the rugged ridge trail traverses the entire mountain range and provides challenging ascents and descents, requiring a good fitness level and sturdy footwear. As a protected natural park, Serra Gelada plays a vital role in conserving the region’s natural heritage, blending stunning landscapes with significant ecological importance.
