Sierra de Oltá is a stunning mountain range located near the coastal town of Calpe in the province of Alicante, Spain. Rising to an elevation of 587 meters, it offers a dramatic contrast to the surrounding Mediterranean landscape. This small yet striking sierra is characterized by its limestone peaks, rugged cliffs, and lush pine forests. Its strategic location near the coast provides breathtaking panoramic views of the Peñón de Ifach, the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean, and the picturesque town of Calpe. The sierra’s flora and fauna are a mix of Mediterranean species, including aromatic herbs, wildflowers, and birds of prey, making it an excellent spot for nature enthusiasts and hikers alike.
Hiking in the Sierra de Oltá is an unforgettable experience, with trails catering to various skill levels. The most popular route, the PR-CV 340, encircles the mountain and offers a well-marked path through its diverse terrain. Along the way, hikers can discover scenic viewpoints, such as the Mirador de la Ermita Vella, and remnants of ancient rural life, including stone terraces and cisterns. The trail also passes through the serene Oltá campsite, a perfect spot for a picnic or a rest. Whether seeking a leisurely walk or a more challenging ascent to the summit, the Sierra de Oltá rewards visitors with incredible vistas and a sense of connection to the natural beauty of the Costa Blanca.
