Day 1: Alcañiz to Lledó (Approx. 60 km)

Our adventure begins in the historic town of Alcañiz, known for its medieval castle and charming old quarter. After a 2.5 hour drive we will set off on the Val de Zafán Greenway journey. The trail will lead us through the picturesque landscapes of Aragon, characterized by rolling hills, lush farmland, and occasional olive groves. As we pedal, the terrain gradually descends, offering a pleasant ride with stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

As we ride, we’ll pass through tunnels and over bridges, remnants of the old railway, adding a touch of history to our journey. The route then takes us through the peaceful countryside of the Matarranya region, where the scenery shifts to vineyards and almond trees. As we approach Lledó, the terrain becomes slightly more challenging, but the reward is worth it. In the late afternoonwe’ll arrive in the quaint village of Lledó, where we’ll spend the night.

Day 2: Lledó to Amposta (Approx. 70 km)

We will start our day with an energizing breakfast in our hot, ready to tackle the second half of our journey. From Lledó, the greenway continues south, leading us through the heart of the Terra Alta region. The landscape here is more rugged, with steep cliffs, deep goelrges, and dense forests. As you cycle, you’ll pass through the Baix Ebre, where the route becomes more varied, featuring dramatic rock formations and ancient viaducts. All the said, the greenway goes downhill steadily, making the second day a very pleasant bike ride.

The final stretch of our journey takes us along the banks of the Ebro River, as we approach the town of Amposta. The trail flattens out, offering an easy ride as we soak in the views of the delta. We will arrive in Amposta in the late afternoon, where the greenway ends. After that we’ll have post-ride drinks and head back to Valencia.
